RANCHI, March 21: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday participated in Sarhul celebrations at multiple locations in Ranchi, underscoring the importance of nature and tribal traditions in the state’s cultural identity.
Accompanied by MLA Kalpana Soren, the Chief Minister attended the Sarhul Mahotsav at the Adivasi College hostel campus in Karamtoli and later visited the Sarna Sthal in Sirmatoli, where he took part in rituals led by tribal priests.
Officials said traditional rituals were performed at both locations. At Sirmatoli, the practice of placing the sal flower behind the ear, symbolising the link between nature and human life, was observed.
Addressing gatherings, Soren said Sarhul reflects the ecological foundations of life and the need to preserve traditional practices.
“Nature is the source of life, and its protection is essential for our existence,” he said.
He said tribal festivals such as Sarhul are rooted in community traditions and reflect a long-standing relationship with nature.
Soren also reiterated the government’s commitment to preserving tribal culture and heritage, and said such festivals promote environmental awareness and social harmony.
Sarhul, celebrated across Jharkhand, marks the onset of spring and is associated with the worship of nature, particularly the sal tree, among tribal communities.
Officials said the Chief Minister extended greetings to people on the occasion.
