Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Sunday said Jharkhand is steadily developing new economic possibilities by leveraging its natural resources, policy reforms and focus on skill development, as he held talks with a high-level Australian delegation led by High Commissioner Philip Green.

The meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s official residence in Ranchi, focused on strengthening cooperation between Jharkhand and Australia in sectors such as mining, education, investment, skill development and economic partnership. Officials said detailed discussions were held on how Australian expertise and technology could complement Jharkhand’s resource base.

Soren said the state government is working to shift Jharkhand’s economy from a labour-intensive model to a knowledge-driven economy, with special emphasis on education, technology and innovation. He highlighted the state’s mineral wealth, investment opportunities and evolving policy framework, and invited Australian companies to explore long-term partnerships in Jharkhand.

The Australian High Commissioner appreciated Jharkhand’s policy direction and spoke positively about Australia’s approach to sustainable mining, mine safety and rehabilitation. He noted that both Jharkhand and Australia share similarities in the mining sector and that cooperation could be expanded through the use of modern technology and best practices.

The Chief Minister also praised Australia’s policies on mine closure and land restoration, especially the emphasis on restoring mined land to local communities. He said Jharkhand is keen to adopt global best practices to ensure that mining-led development remains environmentally responsible and socially inclusive.

During the interaction, the Australian side extended an invitation to the Chief Minister to visit Australia to further explore collaboration opportunities, particularly in mining safety, skill training and advanced technologies.

Officials present at the meeting said the interaction is being seen as a step towards giving Jharkhand’s investment outreach a global dimension, with a focus on sustainable development and international cooperation.

The meeting was attended by senior state officials and members of the Australian delegation.
