RANCHI: Jharkhand will host the National Forestry Congress 2026 for the first time, bringing together forest administrators, scientists, policymakers, academics and environmental experts to discuss forest conservation, biodiversity and climate change.
The three-day conference will be held from December 10 to 12 at the State Institute of Public Administration (SKIPA) auditorium in Morabadi, Ranchi. The state’s Forest, Environment and Climate Change Department is organising the event, with a focus on translating forestry research into practical conservation measures. <Cite refs={[“turn989136search4″,”turn989136search0”]}/>
Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Force Sanjeev Kumar unveiled the conference brochure and web portal at a press conference at the Vivekananda auditorium in Van Bhawan on Friday.
Kumar said hosting the national conference was significant for Jharkhand, given the state’s forest resources and the challenges associated with their sustainable management.
Conference to cover 12 technical themes
The conference will deliberate on 12 technical themes covering forestry research, ecological restoration and forest governance.
The agenda includes forest genetics and tree improvement, silviculture, biodiversity conservation, agroforestry and the restoration of degraded forest areas. Experts will also discuss climate change, carbon storage and ecosystem services.
Other subjects include the use of geographical information systems (GIS) and remote sensing in forest management, forest hydrology, watershed management, soil conservation, forest economics and wood technology.
Forest administration, community participation, international environmental commitments and wildlife habitat management will also feature in the discussions. The conference is expected to provide a platform for researchers and policymakers to exchange findings and explore their application in forest management. <Cite refs={[“turn989136search4″,”turn989136search2”]}/>
