RANCHI: The Jharkhand Industrial Development Corporation Limited (JIIDCO) plans to develop a modern logistics and warehousing facility spread over 25,000 square feet at Dubaliya in Ranchi, with an estimated investment of Rs. 6.5 crore.

The project is expected to provide storage space for traders and farmers, helping them keep goods and agricultural produce safely before sale. According to a newspaper report, JIIDCO has issued a tender for the selection of a contractor, with the tender scheduled to open on November 6.

The construction is targeted for completion within 12 months after the project gets underway.

Storage facility for traders and farmers

The proposed warehouse is expected to address the need for secure storage among farmers, traders and businesses dealing in agricultural produce, food items, construction materials and other goods.

Farmers could use the facility to store their produce for a short period instead of being compelled to sell immediately. Traders would also be able to rent space according to their storage requirements.

The availability of organised warehousing could help businesses manage inventory and ensure that goods remain stored in suitable conditions until they are needed. The facility may also support logistics planning by making storage space available close to transport-related activities.

Transport Nagar connection

The report highlights the potential benefits of the proposed warehouse for the surrounding Transport Nagar area, where goods vehicles and transport-related activities are concentrated.

Adequate warehousing space could help traders and businesses avoid the difficulty of finding suitable storage in nearby areas. It could also improve coordination between transportation and storage, making the movement of goods more convenient.

Rental model and local employment

The facility is expected to operate as a rental-based warehousing option for businesses. The rental rates are likely to be determined after construction is completed, the report said.

The project could also generate employment opportunities for local residents during construction and through subsequent warehousing and logistics operations.

However, the final implementation schedule, rental structure and operational arrangements will depend on the project’s progress and the terms finalised by the corporation.

The proposed facility is part of the effort to strengthen storage and logistics infrastructure in and around Ranchi, with potential benefits for agricultural producers, traders and other businesses requiring organised warehousing space.
