The NCC Directorate Bihar and Jharkhand has announced the launch of the Veer Birsa Munda Cyclothon, a nationwide awareness and unity initiative under the aegis of NCC Group Headquarters, Ranchi. The cyclothon is themed “Shaurya Ke Kadam, Kranti Ki Ore” and seeks to celebrate the legacy of tribal icon Birsa Munda while promoting national integration and cultural pride.
Officials said the cyclothon will be conducted in two phases and will involve NCC officers, permanent staff and cadets, including girl cadets, reflecting inclusiveness and collective participation.
The first phase of the journey will be held from December 18 to 20, 2025, across three different routes within Jharkhand. The cyclists will pass through key locations associated with Birsa Munda’s life and struggle, symbolically retracing the footsteps of the legendary freedom fighter. This leg will culminate with a grand reception at Morabadi Ground in Ranchi.
The second and more demanding phase will begin on December 28, 2025, with a flag-off from the Birsa Munda Jail Complex in Ranchi. Covering nearly 1,300 kilometres over 20 days, the cyclothon will travel through Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi before reaching the national capital. A selected team comprising two officers, two permanent staff and 16 NCC cadets, including girl cadets, will undertake this long-distance ride.
According to NCC officials, the Ranchi-to-Delhi leg will carry the message of unity, courage and cultural pride across multiple states, presenting Jharkhand’s youth as ambassadors of discipline, resilience and service. The journey will culminate at the Prime Minister’s Rally in New Delhi on January 28, 2026, marking a symbolic tribute to Birsa Munda at the highest national platform.
Describing the initiative as more than a sporting event, officials said the Veer Birsa Munda Cyclothon is a movement that combines physical endurance with historical consciousness and national unity. Each kilometre covered, they said, will reflect values of sacrifice, strength and service, while projecting the confidence and aspirations of a new Jharkhand.
