To ease congestion at Ranchi and Hatiya railway stations, the Ranchi Rail Division has drawn up a plan to develop a new coaching depot near Balasiring station, close to Hatia. Once operational, most trains serving the region are expected to originate from Balasiring instead of Ranchi or Hatiya.
Railway officials said the existing Hatia coaching yard faces space constraints and operational limitations, making future expansion difficult. Balasiring station, located around six kilometres from Hatia, has therefore been identified as a suitable alternative site for developing a modern coaching depot to meet growing operational needs.
As part of the proposed arrangement, trains will continue to halt at both Ranchi and Hatia stations for around 10 minutes each, allowing passengers to board and alight conveniently. Trains heading towards the southern and western directions are likely to originate from Balasiring, while services towards northern routes will begin from Balasiring and pass through Hatiya and Ranchi before proceeding further.
Railway authorities said the plan has been prepared keeping in mind the expected rise in passenger traffic and train operations in the coming years. With limited scope for expansion at existing stations, shifting the starting point of trains to Balasiring is expected to streamline operations and reduce congestion at Ranchi and Hatia.
The Railways has also factored in infrastructure development over the next five years, including provisions for additional platforms, stabling lines, pit lines and improved passenger amenities. Officials said the initiative is expected to strengthen rail connectivity in Jharkhand while ensuring smoother operations and a better travel experience for passengers.
