Chief Minister Hemant Soren inaugurated the Dishom Guru Shibu Soren Engineering (JEE) and Medical (NEET) Coaching Institute at Hindpiri in Ranchi, marking a significant step towards expanding access to quality competitive exam coaching for students from tribal, Scheduled Caste, backward and minority communities.
The institute will provide free coaching facilities for JEE and NEET aspirants, enabling students to prepare for national-level engineering and medical entrance examinations within the state. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at the Adivasi Maidan, the Chief Minister said students from Jharkhand would no longer need to go outside the state in search of quality coaching.
“This institution will not only be a centre of learning but also a symbol of social and cultural unity,” Soren said. He emphasised that education remains the most effective tool for empowerment and holistic development, especially for students from historically disadvantaged backgrounds.
During the event, the Chief Minister unveiled the statue of Shibu Soren, popularly known as Dishom Guru, and paid floral tributes. He also interacted with students, encouraging them to pursue their goals with confidence while staying rooted in their language, culture and traditions.
Soren announced that students who narrowly missed qualifying in the initial ability test would be given another opportunity. He said many capable students fail to demonstrate their full potential due to situational pressures, and providing them a second chance would help widen the talent pool and ensure fairness.
Highlighting the importance of all-round development, the Chief Minister directed authorities to strengthen sports facilities at the institute. He said sports play a vital role in building discipline, teamwork and competitive spirit, complementing academic growth.
The Chief Minister also outlined the state government’s broader education initiatives, including scholarships for pre-matric and post-matric students, the Savitribai Phule Kishori Samriddhi Yojana, the establishment of 80 model schools, overseas education support under the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda scholarship scheme, and the Guruji Credit Card Yojana, which offers education loans of up to Rs 15 lakh.
Senior ministers, MPs, top bureaucrats and a large number of students were present at the programme. Officials said the new coaching institute is expected to play a key role in strengthening Jharkhand’s presence in national-level competitive examinations and advancing educational equity.
