Jharkhand BJP to launch anti-corruption campaign across 595 mandals

RANCHI: The Jharkhand BJP will launch a campaign against alleged corruption and other governance issues across all 595 organisational mandals in the state, party president Aditya Sahu announced on Sunday, signalling an intensified political offensive against the Hemant Soren government.

Addressing a press conference after the BJP’s two-day state executive committee meeting in Ranchi, Sahu accused the JMM-led government of failing to fulfil electoral promises, provide employment and maintain law and order. These were allegations made by the opposition party and were not independently verified.

Sahu said the BJP would take its campaign to the public and seek to highlight what it described as the state government’s failures. He also expressed satisfaction with the attendance at the October 24-25 meeting, saying around 95 per cent of the expected participants had attended.

Recruitment irregularities and unemployment

The BJP raised alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). The party demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe and called for the withdrawal of cases registered against students who had protested over recruitment-related issues.

Sahu alleged that jobs had been sold for money and criticised the government over its employment commitments, including the promise of five lakh jobs.

He also accused the government of failing to protect tribal people and their land, and alleged that coal, iron ore and sand were being stolen. The allegations were not independently established in the material released by the party.

BJP raises backward-class reservation issue

The state BJP president demanded that the government complete the triple-test process before holding panchayat elections, arguing that backward classes should receive their due reservation and representation.

He accused the Hemant Soren government of failing to protect the interests of backward communities and said the BJP would oppose any move that deprived them of their rights.

The triple-test process is linked to determining the basis for reservation for backward classes in local body elections. Sahu called on the state government to complete the process before proceeding with the polls.

Mining policy and MMDR amendment

The BJP also defended the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Act, arguing that it could attract investment, increase mineral production and generate employment.

Sahu criticised opposition to the amendment in Jharkhand and alleged that resistance was connected to interests in coal theft. The claim was a political allegation and was not independently substantiated.

Wider political offensive

The party’s criticism extended to welfare delivery, rural development, irrigation, tribal land rights and the functioning of Gram Sabhas. It also criticised the state government’s position on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and raised concerns about alleged fake voters and infiltration. The party’s claims on these issues were not independently verified.

Sahu accused the ruling JMM-Congress alliance of failing to meet public expectations and alleged that the government was spending more effort defending itself than addressing the state’s problems.

He also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 12 years in office, saying the Centre had placed the concerns of villages, poor people and farmers at the centre of governance.

The BJP said it would continue its campaign on governance, development, welfare delivery and tribal identity. The party’s proposed agitation across 595 mandals is expected to be a key part of its efforts to mobilise public opinion against the state government.

State general secretaries Ganesh Mishra and Amar Kumar Bauri, Manoj Kumar Singh and state media in-charge Yogendra Pratap Singh were present at the press conference.
