RANCHI, March 19: The Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI), in collaboration with Canara Bank, organised a coin distribution camp in Ranchi on Thursday to address the shortage of small denomination currency affecting daily trade.

The camp was held at Chamber Bhawan, where traders were provided coins in denominations of Rs 1, Rs 2, Rs 5 and Rs 20. According to organisers, each trader received coins worth Rs 10,000 to support routine transactions.

The programme, which began at 11 am, saw participation from traders across the city who have been facing difficulties in managing cash transactions due to limited availability of smaller denominations.

FJCCI officials said the initiative was aimed at easing operational challenges in retail trade, where small change is essential for day-to-day business.

Banking Sub-Committee Chairperson Nidhi Jhunjhunwala said availability of smaller denominations would help streamline transactions and reduce dependence on informal adjustments.

Chamber Joint Secretary Rohit Poddar said traders often face inconvenience due to mismatch between available currency and transaction requirements.

Chamber General Secretary Rohit Agarwal said similar initiatives may be organised in the coming weeks in response to continued demand.

Officials from Canara Bank were present at the camp along with chamber representatives, including Krishna Agarwaland other members.

Traders said while the camp provided immediate relief, there is a need for a more consistent supply mechanism to ensure regular availability of small denomination coins in the market.
