Pakistan Link Emerges in Ranchi Gang Operation, Five Arrested

Ranchi Police has dismantled a dangerous nexus between two notorious criminal outfits led by gangster Sujit Sinha and fugitive Prince Khan. The investigation revealed that the syndicate had been procuring arms and ammunition from Pakistan through drones routed via Moga in Punjab. The operation raises urgent questions about the vulnerability of Jharkhand’s business ecosystem and the adequacy of state intelligence mechanisms.

Acting on directions from SSP Rakesh Ranjan, a special police team led by City SP Paras Rana and DySP (Sadar) intercepted a black Tata Safari beneath the Chuttu overbridge during a late-night raid. Four suspects were arrested, and police recovered three loaded pistols, seven magazines, thirteen live cartridges, and several mobile devices.

Interrogation revealed that the gangs jointly ran an extortion racket targeting businessmen and industrialists in Ranchi and across India. The weapons smuggled from Pakistan were allegedly used to intimidate business owners into paying hefty protection money. Extortion proceeds were routed via Sujit Sinha’s network to Prince Khan, then through the UAE to Pakistan, where they were used to procure more arms and fund other criminal activities.

Those arrested include Riya Sinha, wife of jailed gangster Sujit Sinha, who was reportedly managing the network outside jail under the name Koyalanchal Shanti Sena (KSS). Inamul Haq, alias Bablu Khan, handled local extortion on behalf of both gangs, while Ravi Anand (Singha), Mohammad Shahid (Afridi Khan), and Mohammad Seraj (Madan) were also taken into custody. Police sources confirmed that these weapons were also used in the recent firing incident outside Satyabhama Apartment in Doranda.

Political Reaction

BJP state president and Leader of Opposition, Babulal Marandi, strongly criticized the state government over the operation. He alleged that the police and intelligence agencies failed to detect the syndicate despite its extensive criminal network. Marandi demanded a high-level investigation by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, asserting that the lapses expose both administrative and intelligence failures.

“Businesses across Koelanchal, Bokaro, Jamshedpur, and the state capital are living under a cloud of fear,” Marandi said. “From small vendors to large enterprises, extortion is rampant, and some entrepreneurs have even shut operations or left the state out of fear.”

Business Community Reaction

Aditya Malhotra, President of FJCCI, expressed deep concern over the gang crackdown while appreciating the police for their decisive action.

“Jharkhand’s business community is facing an unprecedented threat. From small traders to large enterprises, entrepreneurs are under constant fear of intimidation and extortion. Incidents like these not only endanger lives but also undermine investor confidence and economic growth in the state,” Malhotra said.

He commended the Ranchi Police for their prompt and well-coordinated operation, which led to the arrest of key gang members and the recovery of weapons. “This is a strong message that law enforcement is committed to protecting businesses and ensuring public safety. We appreciate the efforts of the police team in dismantling such a dangerous network,” he added.

Malhotra urged the state government to build on this momentum: “Immediate and stringent measures must follow to secure businesses, prevent future extortion, and maintain investor confidence. Proactive intelligence, rapid response mechanisms, and continued vigilance are critical for a safe business environment in Jharkhand.”

He also highlighted the economic implications: “Extortion and threats force businesses to divert resources from growth to security, affecting employment, trade, and overall economic vitality. It is vital that both safety and economic interests of Jharkhand’s entrepreneurs are protected.”

Police Action and Legal Proceedings

The case has been registered at Sadar Police Station (BIT Mesra Outpost) under FIR No. 512/2025, dated October 22, 2025, with charges including sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Arms Act, and UAPA. Senior police officials have described the operation as a crucial step toward dismantling organized crime in Ranchi. Further investigations aim to trace other members of the network and identify their financial channels.

Looking Ahead

The incident underscores the intersection of crime, cross-border threats, and business vulnerability in Jharkhand. With extortion networks exploiting loopholes in policing and intelligence, state authorities face mounting pressure to restore law and order while ensuring that the business environment remains secure.

As the investigation unfolds, the business community, investors, and policymakers will be watching closely: how effectively can law enforcement dismantle the syndicate, and what measures will be introduced to prevent similar threats in the future?
