Jharkhand Showcases Critical Mineral Potential to Global Experts in London Meet

Jharkhand’s rich endowment of critical and strategic minerals took center stage at a high-level international meeting held in London on Friday, bringing together senior government officials, global experts, and industry leaders from the United Kingdom and Europe.

The meeting, organised at Buckingham Gate, London, focused on Jharkhand’s potential in minerals essential for clean energy technologies, electric mobility, and advanced manufacturing. These include lithium, graphite, rare earth elements (REE), titanium, vanadium, potash, copper, and gold.

Officials from the Government of Jharkhand made detailed presentations on the state’s geological strength, ongoing exploration initiatives, and recent policy and regulatory reforms designed to promote sustainable and responsible mineral development. Special emphasis was placed on key mineral zones such as the Koderma–Giridih mica belt, Palamu graphite blocks, and the Singhbhum mineral belt, along with Jharkhand’s vast coal and iron-ore ecosystems that also hold associated critical mineral potential.

The discussions highlighted Jharkhand’s growing strategic role in strengthening India’s critical mineral supply chain and supporting the country’s energy transition goals. Participants also explored opportunities for international collaboration in areas such as mineral exploration, technology transfer, research, beneficiation, and value addition.

Global stakeholders welcomed Jharkhand’s progressive approach towards transparency, ease of doing business, and alignment with India’s broader vision of self-reliance in critical and strategic minerals. The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to deepen cooperation between Jharkhand and international partners in the critical minerals sector.

The Government of Jharkhand reaffirmed its resolve to pursue sustainable mining practices while safeguarding environmental and community interests.

The delegation was led by Additional Chief Secretary Mrs. Vandana Dadel and Director of Mines Mr. Rahul Kumar Sinha. Distinguished participants included Prof. Mukesh of the University of Cambridge, Prof. Paul Anderson of the University of Birmingham, Dr. Jeff Townsend, Founder of the Critical Minerals Association (UK), Richard Oldcorn, Director of SRK Consulting (UK), along with several institutional and industry stakeholders from the United Kingdom.

The engagement marks another step in Jharkhand’s efforts to position itself as a key global partner in the critical minerals ecosystem and a reliable destination for responsible mineral investment.
