Ranchi: The Jharkhand Chapter of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) successfully hosted the 6th Sustainable Mining Summit at Hotel BNR Chanakya in Ranchi on August 23. The half-day event brought together senior industry leaders, policymakers, academics, and civil society representatives to discuss the future of sustainable and responsible mining in India.
The summit began with the traditional lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the industry’s renewed commitment to sustainability in mining.
Experts Emphasize Collaboration for Responsible Mining
Delivering the inaugural address, Dr. Amritanshu Prasad, Chairman of ICC Jharkhand and CEO of BRMC (associated with Thriveni Sainik Mining), underlined the importance of sustainability in mining.
“The mining sector, being resource-intensive, must integrate sustainability into every aspect of its operations,” Dr. Prasad said, calling for a strong synergy between industry and government.
Adding to the perspective, P.K. Dixit, Director (Projects), MECON, emphasized that transformation in the mineral sector cannot be achieved in isolation.
“It requires a strong partnership between government, industry, and consultancy organizations. Jharkhand, with its rich mineral base and skilled manpower, has the potential to emerge as a global leader,” he noted.
