A delegation representing displaced families and coal traders met Coal India Limited (CIL) Chairman at the company’s headquarters in Kolkata on Monday to raise a series of pressing concerns related to displacement, employment, and coal operations.
During the meeting, the delegation submitted a memorandum outlining problems in the coal bidding and lifting process, and called for proper identification of displaced families through PEP cards, priority employment, and improved facilities in coal-affected areas. They also urged that development works worth up to ₹1 crore be allotted to local displaced beneficiaries.
The delegation highlighted the need to ensure equal pay for outsourced workers, better sanitation, healthcare, and educational amenities in mining-affected regions. It warned that if these issues are not addressed within 15 days, a state-wide agitation would be launched with the participation of displaced communities.
After the discussions, the CIL Chairman reportedly assured a positive initiative on the issues raised and promised to examine the demands in detail.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the delegation described the talks as “constructive” and said the movement for the rights and future of displaced residents will continue across all forums, including Parliament.
