The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) on Monday organised a one-day GeM Excellence Event in Ranchi to promote transparent, efficient and fully digital public procurement in Jharkhand.

Held at the Project Building in Dhurwa, the event aimed to familiarise government buyers and Jharkhand-based sellers with new features, improved processes and recent reforms on the GeM platform, with the objective of strengthening digital procurement across state departments.

The programme was attended by GeM Chief Executive Officer Mihir Kumar, Secretary, Commercial Taxes Department Amit Kumar, Secretary, Finance Department (Expenditure) Abu Imran, Special Secretary, Finance Department Sandeep Singh, and Director, Social Welfare Directorate Kiran Kumari Pasi, along with senior state officials, government buyers, sellers and GeM officers.

Addressing the gathering, Mihir Kumar said category-based procurement has made public purchasing more structured, faster and outcome-oriented. He said GeM follows a brand-neutral approach that ensures equal opportunity for all sellers, encourages healthy competition and helps the government secure better value for money. He added that GeM’s internal market intelligence team continuously works on price sanity, while the future use of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning will further enhance transparency and data-driven decision-making.

Jharkhand’s performance on the GeM platform was highlighted during the event. The state has so far recorded procurement worth nearly Rs 7,900 crore through more than 1.5 lakh orders. Over the past three years, Jharkhand has consistently ranked among the top 10 states on GeM in terms of order value, reflecting growing trust in digital procurement systems.

GeM has also enabled Jharkhand-based sellers to access wider national markets. Sellers from the state have received orders worth Rs 3,172 crore from Jharkhand buyers, Rs 704 crore from other states and Rs 42,532 crore from central ministries and CPSEs, taking the total business volume to Rs 46,407 crore. MSME sellers accounted for Rs 26,569 crore of this total.

Top-performing departments and sellers were honoured during the programme. Special sessions were also conducted for buyers and sellers to explain new procurement features and procedures, followed by interactive discussions.
