Jharkhand Steps onto the Global Stage with Davos and UK Mission
Jharkhand is set to make history with its first participation at the World Economic Forum in Davos, followed by an official UK visit led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, marking a major step in the State’s global engagement and sustainable development journey.
Jharkhand is set to make history with its first-ever participation in the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum at Davos, marking a decisive moment in the State’s 25-year journey. The official delegation, led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, will represent Jharkhand at the global forum in Davos, Switzerland, followed by a high-level official visit to the United Kingdom, including London and Oxford.
This landmark engagement signals Jharkhand’s intent to move beyond domestic boundaries and position itself as a serious stakeholder in global conversations on sustainable development, investment, and inclusive growth.
A development narrative rooted in sustainability
Jharkhand’s presence at Davos is anchored in the theme “Growth in Harmony with Nature”, a development philosophy that reflects the State’s ecological realities and indigenous heritage. The approach aligns closely with the World Economic Forum’s 2026 focus on sustainability, resilience, trust, and long-term economic transformation.
Rich in minerals, forests, and human capital, Jharkhand is seeking to project a model of development that balances industrial growth with environmental responsibility and social inclusion. The delegation will use the Davos platform to highlight how sub-national governments can drive responsible resource governance while ensuring community participation and long-term regional stability.
Engagements at Davos
During the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, the Jharkhand delegation will take part in thematic sessions, structured dialogues, and official interactions at the India Pavilion and other WEF platforms. The discussions are expected to focus on investment facilitation, sustainable industrialisation, critical minerals, energy transition, and resilient supply chains.
Officials said the State will also emphasise its policy reforms, governance frameworks, and sectoral opportunities aimed at attracting responsible global investors while safeguarding local interests.
Strategic outreach in the United Kingdom
Following Davos, the delegation will proceed to the United Kingdom for a series of institutional, academic, and investment-oriented engagements. The UK leg of the visit is designed to strengthen collaboration in policy design, innovation, education, skilling, and long-term investment.
A key highlight will be the Chief Minister’s address at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford. Hemant Soren will become the first Indian Chief Minister to deliver a lecture at the institution, followed by an interactive Q&A session with faculty and students. The interaction is expected to focus on governance challenges, sustainable development pathways, and the role of regional governments in managing growth transitions.
The UK visit will also include engagement with the Indian diaspora and discussions on academic exchanges, research collaboration, and skill development partnerships aligned with Jharkhand’s development priorities.
Building global visibility for long-term gains
The State government views the Davos and UK engagements as part of a broader effort to enhance Jharkhand’s global visibility and credibility. Officials say the objective is not limited to short-term investment announcements but extends to building durable international partnerships that can support employment generation, industrial growth, and sustainable economic outcomes over time.
The Chief Minister has underlined the importance of coordinated representation and clear messaging during the visit, directing officials to ensure that Jharkhand’s priorities are effectively articulated on global platforms.
To support transparency and outreach, the government has launched a dedicated website, www.jharkhandatdavos.co.in, which will host details of the State’s participation. Updates will also be shared through official social media handles under the banner JharkhandAtDavos 2026.
As Jharkhand enters its next phase after 25 years of statehood, the Davos debut and the UK mission together mark a shift in how the State seeks to engage with the world, not as a peripheral economy, but as a region with a clear vision for sustainable and inclusive growth.
