Hemant Soren Davos

Jharkhand will make its first-ever appearance at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos from January 19 to 23, 2026. Chief Minister Hemant Soren will lead the official state delegation, marking a significant political and symbolic moment for the state.

For the first time, Jharkhand’s traditional greeting “Johar” will be heard on a global economic platform. The gesture reflects the state’s effort to blend its indigenous identity with international economic engagement. Notably, Hemant Soren will be the first tribal public representative from Jharkhand to attend the Davos summit.

A Strategic Global Debut

The state government views this participation as a strategic step rather than a ceremonial visit. Jharkhand aims to position itself as an emerging investment destination with strong policy support and long-term vision.

During the summit, the delegation will highlight opportunities in critical minerals, mining, electronics and component manufacturing, electric vehicles, renewable energy, textiles, tourism, and forest-based industries. These sectors align closely with the state’s Vision 2050, which focuses on sustainable growth and employment generation.

Moreover, the Chief Minister is expected to hold direct discussions with global business leaders, multinational companies, and international institutions. These meetings will focus on investment partnerships, technology transfer, and long-term industrial collaboration.

India Pavilion and International Presence

Jharkhand is one of six states selected by the Central Government to participate at the India Pavilion at Davos. The state will present itself under the theme “Growth in Harmony with Nature.” This theme reflects Jharkhand’s natural resources, forest cover, and commitment to balanced development.

Meanwhile, the World Economic Forum 2026 is expected to bring together nearly 3,000 participants from around 130 countries. The central themes this year are “A Spirit of Dialogue” and “Unlocking New Sources of Growth.” Global leaders, policymakers, and industry heads will take part in discussions on economic recovery, innovation, and geopolitical challenges.

According to organisers, the meeting may also be attended by U.S. President Donald Trump, further increasing the forum’s global visibility.

Why Davos Matters for Jharkhand

For Jharkhand, the Davos platform offers direct access to global decision-makers. The state government believes such engagement can accelerate investment inflows and help Jharkhand compete with more industrialised Indian states.

At the same time, exposure to global economic thinking is expected to strengthen policy planning at home. Officials argue that lessons from Davos will support sustainable development, skill creation, and future-ready governance.

As Jharkhand enters the 25th year of its formation, this debut at Davos sends a clear message. The state is ready to engage the world while staying rooted in its identity. Whether this outreach converts into concrete investments will become clear in the months ahead, but Jharkhand’s “Johar” has already crossed borders.
