Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad has concluded a three-day Executive Development Programme (EDP) on Working Capital Management of Power Projects, conducted in collaboration with National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited.
The programme, held from February 18 to 20, was organised by the Department of Management Studies and Industrial Engineering at IIT ISM Dhanbad. It brought together senior finance professionals from NHPC, including Senior Managers, Group Senior Managers and Deputy General Managers.
According to the institute, the programme focused on advanced approaches to working capital management in hydroelectric power projects. It was structured as a capacity-building initiative that combined theoretical insights with practical analytical tools relevant to large infrastructure ventures.
Participants received hands-on training in Monte Carlo Simulation and Discrete Event Simulation using Arena software. These tools were used to model project uncertainties, optimise resource allocation and strengthen evidence-based financial decision-making in power projects.
Programme Coordinator Prof. Niladri Das said the collaboration between IIT ISM and NHPC has been ongoing since 2009, with several specialised executive programmes conducted over the years. Prof. Rashmi Singh emphasised the importance of effective working capital management supported by advanced simulation tools to enhance operational efficiency and promote sustainable financial practices in hydroelectric projects.
The institute stated that the successful completion of the programme further strengthens the industry-academia partnership between IIT ISM Dhanbad and NHPC and underscores its commitment to developing managerial and financial capabilities in India’s hydroelectric sector.
