Jharkhandinc Bureau RANCHI, March 13: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday handed over 1,485 vehicles to the state police and laid the foundation for 12 new police stations across different districts in an effort to strengthen law enforcement and improve response capabilities. The vehicles were flagged off during a programme held at the Jharkhand Assembly premises in Ranchi. According to the state government, the fleet includes 636 patrol vehicles and 849 two-wheelers, which will be deployed across districts to support policing operations. Officials said the new vehicles are expected to enhance police mobility, strengthen patrolling, and improve response time in both urban and rural areas. Addressing the gathering, Soren said the distribution of vehicles represents an important step toward police modernisation in the state. He said improved mobility and better equipment would help police respond more quickly to incidents and strengthen surveillance across districts. The chief minister also laid the foundation stones for 12 new police stations, which will be constructed in different parts of the state. The government said the new facilities are intended to expand policing infrastructure and improve access to law enforcement services for residents. Soren said strengthening law enforcement capacity remains a priority for the state government. He said investments in vehicles, infrastructure and technology are aimed at improving policing efficiency and ensuring public safety. Referring to a recent kidnapping case in the Dhurva police station area of Ranchi, the chief minister said the swift action of Jharkhand Police led to the rescue of two minor children and exposed an interstate child trafficking network. He said such operations demonstrate the importance of effective policing and coordination. Officials said the state government has approved a larger plan to expand the police vehicle fleet. According to the Home Department, 1,255 patrol vehicles and 1,697 two-wheelers have been sanctioned for Jharkhand Police as part of the modernisation initiative. Authorities said the vehicles will be used for patrol duties, quick response operations, monitoring sensitive areas, and strengthening policing in rural regions. Soren also called on citizens to cooperate with police in maintaining law and order. He said public participation and timely information sharing can help authorities respond more effectively to criminal activities. Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato, ministers Radhakrishna Kishore, Sanjay Prasad Yadav, Irfan Ansari, Dipika Pandey Singh, and Shilpi Neha Tirkey, along with senior police and government officials, were present at the event.
