NKTL Link Boosts Jharkhand Power Supply

NKTL Transmission Link Energised, Power Reliability Set to Improve Across Santhal Pargana and Coal Belt

Jharkhand’s power transmission network received a major upgrade ahead of peak summer demand with the energisation of the Single Circuit Line-in Line-out (S/C LILO) of the 220 kV Govindpur-Dumka Double Circuit transmission line at the 400/220 kV NKTL Grid Sub Station in Dhanbad on Thursday.

According to official information, the transmission link was commissioned after obtaining all statutory clearances from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), Central Transmission Utility of India Ltd (CTUIL), BSNL, Railways and Grid India.

Officials said nearly 190 MW of electricity is now being drawn through the newly energised system, with around 100 MW flowing towards Dumka and 90 MW towards Govindpur.

The development is expected to significantly improve power quality and voltage stability across the Santhal Pargana, Giridih and Dhanbad regions, where consumers have long faced low-voltage issues during periods of high demand.

The 400/220 kV NKTL Grid Sub Station in Dhanbad is now expected to emerge as a major and reliable power source for these regions. Officials stated that the strengthened connectivity will enhance overall grid stability and support rising electricity demand during the summer season.

The project also provides an additional power redundancy route for the Santhal Pargana region, which until now depended heavily on the 400/220 kV Maithon Power Grid station through the 220 kV Maithon-Dumka double circuit transmission line. The newly established connectivity is expected to reduce overloading pressure on that corridor.

Authorities further said the new arrangement would help ensure uninterrupted and quality power supply across Santhal Pargana, Giridih and Dhanbad districts, while also reducing dependence on Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) in Giridih and Dhanbad areas.

The infrastructure addition is also expected to improve utilisation of transmission resources for which Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd (JBVNL) is reportedly paying nearly Rs 1 crore per month in transmission-related charges.
