Jharkhand Excise Revenue Hits Record Rs 4013 Crore in FY26, Surpasses Previous High

The Excise Department of Jharkhand has recorded its highest-ever revenue collection of Rs 4013.53 crore in the financial year 2025-26, significantly surpassing the previous peak of around Rs 2700 crore, according to an official press release issued on Thursday.

Record Revenue Marks Sharp Jump

The department’s latest figures mark a substantial increase over the earlier record, indicating a sharp expansion in excise revenue mobilisation during the current financial year.

Officials said the achievement has strengthened the state’s fiscal position, adding a major boost to the treasury.

Administrative Tightening and Monitoring Credited

According to the Information and Public Relations Department release, the revenue growth reflects improved administrative efficiency and a stricter monitoring mechanism across the state.

The department attributed the increase to intensified action against:

  • Illegal manufacture of liquor
  • Unauthorized transportation
  • Unregulated sale

The release noted that sustained enforcement efforts have helped plug revenue leakages.

Digital Tracking and Policy Changes Drive Growth

The Excise Department also highlighted the role of technology and policy interventions in achieving the record collection.

Key measures cited include:

  • Strengthening of digital tracking systems to monitor supply and sales
  • Continuous enforcement drives against illegal trade
  • Revisions in licensing processes to enhance transparency
  • Changes in excise duty and licence fee structures under the new policy

These steps have improved compliance and increased accountability within the system.

Transparency and Competition in Retail Operations

The release further stated that reforms in the operation of liquor outlets have contributed to higher revenue.

Improved transparency in licensing and increased competition among vendors have led to better revenue realization, according to officials.

Leakage Control a Key Factor

A major factor behind the rise in revenue has been the control of leakages.

With tighter surveillance and digital integration, the department has been able to reduce losses that previously occurred due to illegal trade and weak monitoring systems.

The FY 2025-26 excise revenue performance represents a significant administrative and financial milestone for Jharkhand, with enforcement, digitisation, and policy restructuring emerging as the key drivers behind the record collection.
