Ranchi’s business community and the city police have started a structured coordination system at the police-station level. The goal is to improve safety and confidence in key commercial zones.
Focus on market-area concerns
The first meeting took place at Kotwali police station. Traders raised issues related to petty crime, harassment and increasing drug activity around busy public spots. In response, police will run focused checks in and around Bada Talab and nearby lanes.
These areas see high footfall, so maintaining order helps both traders and local residents.
Faster communication and response
To make communication quicker, traders and police officers have created a dedicated WhatsApp group. This group will be used to share alerts, raise complaints and respond to urgent situations. According to officers, faster information flow can prevent problems from escalating.
Chamber’s plan for city-wide rollout
Chamber president Aditya Malhotra said safe markets are key for a healthy business environment. He noted that good law and order encourages business activity and supports investor confidence.
The chamber plans to hold similar meetings in all police-station areas. This will help build a steady feedback and coordination system between businesses and law-enforcement officials.
A model for community-supported policing
This initiative shows a shift toward community-supported policing in Ranchi. It also offers a model that other areas in the state can adopt.
Representatives from JJ Road, Upper Bazaar, Sonar Patti, Rangrez Gali, Seva Sadan Path and surrounding markets took part in the meeting.
The joint effort aims to reduce crime, support traders and create a safe and active marketplace for shoppers and businesses.
