RANCHI, March 16: Jharkhand Rural Development Minister Dipika Pandey Singh has launched an artificial intelligence (AI)-based training programme for officials of the department to improve administrative efficiency and strengthen implementation of government schemes.
According to officials, the initiative includes structured training sessions for officers and staff to use AI tools in routine administrative work, making Jharkhand one of the first states to introduce such a programme at the departmental level.
The programme is being implemented under the Rural Development Department with support from an AI Support Cell, set up in October 2025 to integrate technology into governance processes.
Officials said six training sessions were conducted between January and February 2026, with participation from more than 40 personnel, including data entry operators, section officers and officials up to the under secretary level.
The training focused on the use of AI tools to improve efficiency in tasks such as preparing official documents, analysing data, generating reports and monitoring the progress of government schemes.
According to the department, the initiative aims to improve the functioning of key rural schemes including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) and programmes implemented through the Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society.
Officials said the use of AI tools is expected to reduce delays in decision-making and improve data-driven monitoring of schemes at various administrative levels.
The training also covered data security and responsible use of AI in government systems. Participants were introduced to tools such as Microsoft Copilot and Power BI for documentation and analysis.
The department plans to expand the programme to district and block-level officials in the next phase. Officials said field-level officers, including block development officers, will be included in upcoming training sessions.
According to officials, the department is also working on developing an integrated rural data system and exploring AI-based tools for citizen services, including platforms to provide information on scheme eligibility and status.
Officials said the programme is part of broader efforts to modernise administrative processes and strengthen implementation of development schemes in rural areas.
